Qualcomm has unveiled its next flagship chipset for Android phones and it marks a deviation from the naming convention. For starters, it’s no longer Qualcomm Snapdragon, but just Snapdragon. Meet the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 – this is the new naming scheme, the number for the class (8 being the flagship) and a generation. It is the first 4nm chipset from Qualcomm and the first to use this new generation of CPU architectures.
The processor retains the three-cluster design, however, the cores are now based on the ARMv9 designs. This means that the main core is a Cortex-X2 and it will run at 3.0 GHz. It is supported by three performance cores based on the Cortex-A710, these will run at 2.5 GHz and four efficiency cores based on the A510 running at 1.8 GHz.
Overall, the new processor will be 20% faster than that of the Snapdragon 888 while reducing power consumption by up to 30%.
Let’s move on to the Realme GT 2 Pro, the name of which has been confirmed and appeared in renderings this week. It has a powerful camera visor covering the upper back. There are three visible camera modules housed in the craft with two 50MP shooters alongside an 8MP snapper.
