The Ballon d’Or is almost two months away. But a short list of 30 people has to be given before voting. The French magazine France Football today published a shortlist of 30 people for the award. That list naturally includes players from the Champions League-winning Chelsea and Euro-winning Italy. No matter how the list is made, Lionel Messi is definitely there.
Argentina has won the Copa America this year after winning the 28-year title drought in international football. Messi, the tournament’s best player and goal scorer, was instrumental in their winning the title. Messi’s biggest rivals in this year’s Ballon d’Or are Georgino, who has won the Champions League for Chelsea and the Euros for Italy.
Georgini’s teammates Azpiliketa, Kante and Mason Mount are also on the list. There is Copa America winning Argentina forward Lautaro Martinez. However, there is no great goalkeeping Emiliano Martinez in the Copa America. Lautaro Martinez, however, played a key role in helping Inter Milan win Serie A before winning the Copa America.
In addition to Giorgione, he has a shortlist of 30, including four Italian teammates – Barella, Bonucci, Kiellini and goalkeeper Donnarumma. Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester United this summer, and Brazil star Neymar are also in the running for the Ballon d’Or. Manchester City, who won the English Premier League title last season, have four players in their list of 30: Kevin de Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Phil Foden and Rahim Sterling.
Also on the shortlist of 30 are Karim Benzema, Bruno Fernandez, Harry Kane, Killian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah, Gerard Moreno and Romelu Lukakura. France football did not win the Ballon d’Or last year due to the coronavirus epidemic. Robert Lewandowski is still on the list of 30 favorites to win the service award.
